Paint is very thin, worn mostly to bare wood in spots, but what paint remains appears to be original, with some overpaint to the whit areas. The rig mate to this decoy was sold at the Guyette & Schmidt November 2003 auction lot 688 for $9,900. I acquired both of these wonderful old birds about 23 yrs ago at the Elkton fire hall decoy show.

William Cramner, Beach Haven , New Jersey: Signed and dated pair of Bluebills, hen has turned head which is resting on her back.Altough the birds make a wonderful pair they are dated at different times, the hen , 1981 & the drake 1979. There are some old areas of sap bleeding on the tail of the drake, and the underside of the tail and breast of the hen, these have a coat of clear varnish over them to stop the sap. Done at the time the decoys were painted.
