Frank Finney, Pungo, Virginia

This incredable examples of a Nathan Cobb Jr. Blackduck are from the collection of the late John Maddox who owned the Chincoteague wildlife decoy museum in Chincoteague, Virginia.

According to John's son and Cigar Daisey the resident carver of the museum for over 20 years ,John had Frank make him a rig of these decoys for his Cobb Island display. These are exact duplicates of the Cobb blackduck pictured in Fleckinstien's book" Southern decoys of Virginia & the Carolinas plate 414 pg.199. The birds were made for John in the 1970's making them over 40 yrs. old. hollow carved with a wonderful serifed N in the bottom ,original paint ,tie line and bottom weight. the finly sculpted head is inletted to the body. Now for a moment of fact! If you were to order a copy of a Cobb decoy today from any of the great three masters, Finney,McIntyre or Mc.Nair the cost would run in the 2-4,000 dollar range. these great 40 yr old plus birds are a super bargin for any collector of contemporary decoys
